We received this MSD80 ECU from a BMW 335i from one of the shops that use our slave tool. The vehicle wouldn't start and the scan tool couldn't even go online. After quick investigation, they noticed that the ECU was submerged in water. A very common issue we find in many older BMWs. They dropped off the ECU for us to open it up and have a quick look at it. As you can see in the picture, the corrosion has reached the board and some circuitry. We knew that we wouldn't be able to use standard tools to perform a basic clone procedure as the ECU is now dead. It was now time to get creative, we manually went onto the EEPROM chip to read the data and make a full clone hoping that the EEPROM is still alive. We successfully managed to take a full direct read from the EEPROM with a chip reader. We then hunted down a similar ECU from a donor vehicle and transferred all the data over. This included the entire security system and previous configuration that was setup from factory back in 2009. We also gave it a Stage 1 tune while we were at it, resulting into another happy customer!
