Pops & Bangs (Crackle Map / Over-Run Map)
Pops & Bangs (Crackle Map / Over-Run Map): A Service for Your Customers
Zentune offers the Pops & Bangs feature through ECU Remapping, which can be applied to certain petrol vehicles. This feature produces a distinctive pop and bang or crackle sound from the exhaust during engine deceleration, adding a sportier feel and more aggressive noise to the vehicle. While it doesnât enhance performance, it does provide an exciting auditory experience that many enthusiasts crave.
Custom Pops & Bangs Feature
When you offer the Pops & Bangs feature to your customers through Zentune, the following modifications are made to the vehicle's ECU:
- Injector Timing Adjustment Under normal conditions, fuel injectors are switched off during engine deceleration to prevent fuel from entering the combustion chamber. However, when applying the Pops & Bangs patch, we adjust the ECU to keep the injectors open for a brief period after the throttle plate closes. This allows a small amount of fuel to enter the combustion chamber.
- Spark Timing Adjustment We then modify the spark timing maps to ignite the fuel well after the Top Dead Centre (TDC) of the engineâs cycle. This delayed ignition causes the fuel to burn during the exhaust stroke, leading to small explosions within the exhaust system. These controlled explosions create the signature popping and banging noise, and in some cases, small flames may even be visible from the exhaust tips.
Important Considerations
Exhaust System Requirements: It's essential that this feature is only applied to vehicles with an upgraded exhaust system that includes either a decat or a metallic-structured sports cat. Implementing the Pops & Bangs feature on a standard exhaust system could result in damage and is not recommended.
Enhance Your Service Services
By incorporating Zentuneâs Pops & Bangs feature into your service offerings, you can provide your customers with an exciting and sporty exhaust note that enhances their driving experience. This service is perfect for enthusiasts looking to add a more aggressive sound to their vehicle without compromising engine performance.
